Dear parents,We’re doing our best to guide them, but we can’t do it alone. We kindly ask for your continued support—through conversations at home, thoughtful guidance, and setting examples of balance. Let’s work together to raise aware, mindful, and responsible young people.
Pledges to support AMSS' STEM Club
16/01/25 (AMSS) -- Amana Model Secondary School hosted a captivating session today, as the renowned young Ethiopian innovator and entrepreneur, Ezedin Kamil, shared his inspiring journey and contributions to technology and entrepreneurship in Ethiopia.
Ezedin, who hails from the rural village of Atat in Gurage Zone narrated how his journey began with a simple yet impactful invention.
After his mother’s café was robbed, his early interest in electronics drove him to create a security alarm using an old cellphone. This innovation earned him local recognition and sparked a lifelong passion for problem-solving through technology.
At just 21 years old, Ezedin has achieved extraordinary milestones. With over 37 electronic innovations, 13 patents, and two successful startups—Hex Labs and Icon Africa—under his leadership, he has firmly established himself as a trailblazer in Ethiopia’s technological landscape.
Ezedin captivated the audience by recounting his innovations and entreprenuerial journey. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he innovated a contactless soap dispenser with a built-in sensor and a mobile-operated mechanical ventilator. These devices underscored his commitment to addressing societal challenges through innovation.
"Innovation begins with identifying the problems around us," he said, motivating the school community to pursue their dreams with passion and purpose.
He also shared his international achievements, such as being a top 10 finalist in the British Council's COP26 Destination Zero Climate Innovation Challenge for his work on solar and electric three-wheelers.
His fascinating story of innovation, entreprenuership and achievements resonated with AMSS students and staff, prompting a series of applauses.
Ezedin's story illustrates how determination and creativity can transcend boundaries.
The event concluded with Q&A and Ezedin encouraging students to embrace challenges as opportunities for growth. He also pledges to closely support AMSS' STEM club.
Ezedin Kamil’s visit left a lasting impression on the Amana Model Secondary School community, inspiring the next generation of innovators and entrepreneurs to follow in his footsteps
The English and Literature Club at Amana Model Secondary School (AMSS) held its first-ever Speech Contest on 10/01/2025, marking a significant milestone in the Club’s efforts to nurture public speaking skills among its members.
The event took place in the school compound and featured a spirited competition among students from Grades 9 to 11.
In a closely contested competition, Sabrina Abbas emerged as the winner with her compelling critique of antagonistic feminism—a thought-provoking speech that captivated both judges and the audience.
Amran Abiy (Grade 9) and Muaz Elias (Grade 10) tied for second place, showcasing exceptional oratory skills and earning commendations for their performances.
The other contestants were Mahi Seid, Niya Seid, Zeyneb Jemal, Meryem Ahmed, Aladin Aman, Khensa Kamil, Ibrahim Abdulwasi, Rana Seid, Kewser Assefa, Reyan Mohammed, and Aya Mahmud.
The contestants delivered speeches inspired by notable figures, including Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, former U.S. President Barack Obama, the late Princess Diana of Wales, and the legendary pre-match speech by Muhammad Ali, among others.
These diverse selections highlighted the students' ability to analyze and present powerful messages from various cultural and historical contexts.
The event was coordinated by English teacher Mr. Zemene Beyene, who emphasized the transformative power of effective communication.
In his opening remarks, he noted, "When delivered eloquently, the spoken word has the power to influence and inspire people."
"This contest is organized with the aim of building the confidence of the contestants, and, as such, all participants in the contest are winners," Mr. Zemene said.
The competition drew an enthusiastic crowd of students and teachers who applauded the contestants’ courage, confidence, and mastery of public speaking.
The speeches were evaluated based on content, delivery, and impact, with each participant displaying varying levels of skill and flair.
The event underscored the importance of public speaking as an essential life skill, combining critical thinking, emotional intelligence, and effective communication.
It also provided a platform for young voices to rise, speak, and shine—the motto of the contest—and share ideas that resonate with their peers and mentors.
The English and Literature Club has already made the Speech Contest an annual tradition, fostering a culture of eloquence, confidence, and intellectual engagement within the Amana Model School community.
The Cultural Day celebration at Amana Model School is one of the most anticipated events of the year, designed to honor and celebrate the diverse traditions and heritage of Ethiopia. The event serves as a vibrant platform for students, staff, and parents to showcase and experience the richness of our nation’s culture in a joyful and educational atmosphere.
